Hey, guys!
So, I still feel kind of wiped from my trip to New York--I basically had to go back to work the day after we got back, but we did a lot of interesting things.
A quick rundown--
Thursday:
Spent pretty much all day in an airport. Our flight to Newark was delayed by nearly three hours because of a burning cargo plane, so we didn't get to New York until midnight. Fortunately, the hosts of our bed and breakfast were supremely awesome and still picked us up from the airport, even though they usually don't do that after 10pm. We pretty much immediately passed out.
Friday:
Friday was the day we got lost on the subway a lot. In between running up and down subway stairs, we managed to see the Ellis Island immigration museum and the Museum of Modern Art. We got to see an incredible exhibit of Willem de Kooning's paintings, and some great photography. We were exhausted from walking around all day, though. My feet hurt like hell.
Saturday:
We spent all of Saturday on Broadway and Christopher Street. I finally got to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, which made me intensely happy. I have a program! And a cup!
After Phantom, we hung out on Christopher's Street for pretty much the rest of the day. We ate lunch at a diner called The Path Cafe and found this cute bookstore that sold nothing but mystery novels. I bought four books from there, based on the owner's recommendation. So far, the one that I've read was good, so I'm looking forward to reading the others. At 8pm, we got to see The Submission. Funny side note--the theater stood right next to a gay porn shop. I walked right by it like, three times on our trek around Christopher Street before I even noticed.
dungeonmarm, of course, saw it immediately.
The best thing about that was that Jon and I decided to wait to see if we could get the cast to sign our playbill (there were only four characters in the play) and we did! I got to talk to Jonathan Groff and he signed my playbill! ♥ I behaved very much like an adult, even though I had to let him know that we'd come all the way to New York just because I knew he was going to be in that play. He's very sweet. He deserves all the squishes.
Sunday:
Sunday was our last day of traveling, so we saw the Cloisters, which was beautiful and full of Medieval Art and Architecture. I took so many pictures there, guys. SO MANY PICTURES. I will post some up here as soon as I figure out how to get them off my phone. After that, we went to see the 9/11 Memorial. There wasn't much there, but the memorial itself was very soothing, I think. It's a good memorial.
We thought about taking one more trip down to Christoper Street at the end of it all, but we decided that we were too tired, and opted for going to bed early, since we had to get up at 5am to head back to our flight.
We made it safely back home, though, and I had tons of fun. And Jonathan Groff was totally worth it. :D
