I'm torn between being severely annoyed and being flattered. The moment of annoyance:
My work. We have four holidays that we acknowledge, even though we don't close for them. They are: the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
Those who work get overtime which isn't all that much because we're all paid MINIMUM WAGE!!
The month I started working there, they had me work the Fourth of July--didn't get paid overtime. Shrugged it off.
Next.
Worked Thanksgiving. Got overtime. Was all alone because all important family was out of state.
NOW.
They have me working Christmas Eve AND Christmas Day. I will get paid for Christmas Day, BUT family will once again be out of state. On top of that, it's a Wednesday, and I've told them before I don't want to work Wednesdays. But I'll live.
I thought that they would be nice enough to leave me the fourth holiday to spend with my family, being as it's only New Year's Day, AND it's on a Wednesday.
I check the schedule tonight.
They have me working New Year's Day.
No words can describe how pissed I am right now. So I go looking for an 'employee time-off request' only to find out that my coworker took the last one. So I'm being patient and waiting until later, like tonight, to see if there will be any more typed up and waiting for me to use. If not, screw protocol. They will get a very pissy letter mentioning that I have worked EVERY SINGLE HOLIDAY WITHOUT COMPLAINT. They better not make me work on New Year's Day.
Now, on to the flattered.
I was listening to my 'Premier Collection of Andrew Lloyd Webber' tonight at work, and I was singing along with 'Don't Cry for me, Argentina', and the customer I was cashiering for sat there for the entire song, and then was all like 'How could Argentina not cry for you when you sing so beautifully?'
*blushes and dies*
That's like, the umpteenth compliment I've had on my voice since I've started working there. If they keep continuing, I might actually be tempted to pay for voice lessons and go professional.
Erg.
Probably not. ^^
