Yesterday,
dungeonmarm and I got in the mood to watch ghost movies. Specifically, found-footage ghost movies.
When those ran out, we resorted to terrible shows like Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters: International. GH: I involved Chillingham Castle and St. Mary's Close, in Edinburgh.
Now, I'd say that while I'm not a history nut, I really really like to read about things I've seen, and Wikipedia is just like TV Tropes for me. I can stay on it forever. It lead me to this. Specifically, the first line of the 12th century.
1114: Infant Scottish heir Malcolm is murdered by a priest.
I immediately thought WTF. Why would a priest kill a baby less than a year old? Now, since he was the Scottish heir, obviously there had to be a political reason behind it, but I should find out his name so I can read about what happened after! Did he get caught, did he escape and we know that he killed Malcolm because he left a note? What happened to this dude in 1114 who killed a baby?
After some research, I ran into several places (namely here, here, and here) which state he was strangled by Donald Bane.
That's actually impossible, though, because Donald Bane died in 1099, while the baby Malcolm was killed in 1114. (I confirmed that here and here.)
So there's a mystery that's driving me batty. I just have so many questions about a priest who's willing to kill a baby. Especially when that baby was the grandson of St Margaret.
