Comics. Dude, they are such a mixed bag. [personal profile] dungeonmarm and I went to Hastings to read through all of the 52 issues that have come out, so a couple of quick things about them.

There are spoilers. Click at your own risk.

JLA - Fun. I don't care much about Hal Jordan, but I do like the fact he didn't know Batman was a real guy. Waiting to see what they do with it, but I'll definitely pick this one up again.

Action Comics - I hate you, Grant Morrison. And I don't care if he is from Kansas, having Clark say 'ain't' kills me. Annoyed. Fortunately, my dad is buying this one, so I don't have to spend my own money to keep up on this.

Superboy - I'm really liking this. I like Rose and the VR and the tie in to Titans. Looking forward to more. My dad is buying this one, but if he weren't I might be picking it up myself.

Batman - I love my Bruce. Especially when he has the Bat-boys over for a couple of panels. ♥ He looks super young. On the other hand, Alfred! Dick! Damian and Tim cameos! And Dick as a murderer? Cliffhanger, you're doing it right.

Batgirl - I already talked about this one here. Weak opening. I hope Gail can pull this together.

Batwoman - My baby. Just as good as I was hoping, and a Renee picture on the wall as a cameo. Maggie Sawyer asked Kate out! And there was still such a bittersweet moment when you just know that if Renee walked through that door, Kate probably would've thrown herself at her. Art is gorgeous, everyone's in character, and Kate is calling Bette 'plebe'. I'm also fascinated by the Weeping Woman. One of my favorite issues I've read, still.

Catwoman - I had low expectations going in, but now. No. Just no. I will not be picking this one up again. It made me rage.

Red Hood And The Outlaws - Scott Lobdell is writing this one, so I was surprised that I didn't like it. And boy, I didn't like it. I was entertained by Roy being in prison. I was entertained by how shippy he was with Jason. And then they ruined Starfire. It wasn't bad enough that her costume is even skimpier now than it was pre-reboot, she also can't care less about any former teammates that she's had. Because, you know, she's an alien and doesn't care about her human connections from the past. Also, she sleeps with Roy, and it's stated outright she's slept with Jason. I could've gotten behind that if they didn't character assassinate her in the first place. DISAPPOINT.

Batwing - One of my new favorites. It's dark and delicious and has beautiful art and everyone should buy this.

Nightwing - I wasn't going to buy this, but upon reading the first issue, I thought of two things. One, I really like Dick Grayson. Two, this issue really read as a 'so, you're a new reader picking this up for the first time, so we'll give you the rundown on Nightwing. Hope you enjoy it. On the other hand, cliffhanger! And a connection to the Batman issue! I like. Have I mentioned that I still ship Bruce/Dick? Because I seriously do.

Batman And Robin - Didn't care for this as much as the other bat titles. i don't think I like Damian, and, well, honestly? One of the things I've always liked is that Batman returned to Crime Alley every year on the anniversary of his parents' death so he would never forget why he became Batman. But now, Crime Alley is going to be razed to the ground and rebuilt, and Bruce is going to start remembering his parents' anniversary instead? I like my Batman dark, and I'm concerned about where this is taking him.

Animal Man - YOU ARE SO GOOD. I'm glad [personal profile] dungeonmarm is buying this, or it would be yet another one in my pile. It's dark and surprisingly bloody and OMG THAT LAST PAGE. It shocked me as much as the last page of Batwing.

Swamp Thing - Very nice. I've never read the Swamp Thing comic, but this is off to a good start. It's dark and has some lovely writing. Another one that [personal profile] dungeonmarm is collecting. I'll continue to read this one.

Birds Of Prey - I didn't really care for this very much. I might scan some issues just to keep any eye out for Renee (because you never know when you'll see her *____*) but I didn't even like the Dinah and Babs interaction in this issue, for the whole page and a half that it was there.

Blue Beetle - this seemed like a lot of fun, and I do enjoy Jamie, although I miss him together with Red Devil. I won't be collecting it, but I'll pick it up and read it.

Supergirl - Really don't like the costume. We're starting at her origin (again) with the space ship crashing into earth, but it was definitely better than Super Torso. Dad's going to pick some of these issues up, so I'll probably read it occasionally.

Wonder Woman - I loved this issue. Apollo and his Oracle was brilliant, and Diana in London and Zola being pregnant with Zeus' baby, and Hermes and centaurs! A strong, fast-paced first issue. I can't wait for more.

Mr Terrific - couldn't get into it.

Green Arrow - I was suffering reading the first few pages, and then thought, if I'm not enjoying this, then why am I reading it? Not going to bother picking this up again. P.S. Not as rage inducing as Catwoman, which I hated so much I had to read to the end of the issue just so I could stew in my anger. Yes, I need to find healthier ways of dealing.

Justice League International - I don't think I'm going to collect this, but it was a lot of fun. Booster as leader! Guy being an asshole! Godiva telling Batman to sod off! It was light and fun, so I'll keep my eye on it.

Captain Atom - It was interesting, but not something I feel I need to have. There were monsters, and he reminds us of Dr. Manhattan.

Grifter - I read this comic thinking Grifter had a multiple personality disorder. Still have no idea what's going on in the issue. It's one thing to introduce a story to coax someone to buy the second issue. It's another thing to be so confusing and convoluted that it's easier just not to bother.

Legion of Superheroes - It's the Legion. They're on crack, as always. Cosmic Boy is my guy. Phantom Girl is my girl. The rest, I don't really care about. Does anyone remember the storyline with the White Triangle racist cult and the Daxamites? That was good stuff. You won't find that here.

Demon Knights - this should have been up my alley, but I'll let someone else pick it up. It has Arthurian legends, a lot of women in the cast, and Etrigan. Moving on.

Resurrection Man - I've never read one of his stories, but this is another one being picked up by [personal profile] dungeonmarm. Interesting so far, and I'm curious to see where it's going.

Static Shock - I talked about it here. Not the strongest release, but I love his family.

Stormwatch - what was going on here? I think it had something to do with aliens, but I never read the original Stormwatch, and I think I'm kind of lost here.

Deathstroke - I don't even know why I picked this up. I don't like Deathstroke, and my opinion didn't change by the end of the issue.
