OMG WTF SELF?
I was being a good adult, and thinking, well, my wisdom tooth has only hurt for a couple of days, there's not really any swelling, not any lumps in my lymph nodes, so I don't think I'm impacting, and even when I'm not using Orajel, the pain is not as bad as it was on Wednesday.
Still, Orajel says to use it for seven days at the maximum, and so I was like, I guess I can see what dentists in the area would accept my crappy insurance, just in case I need to go and get this tooth extracted. After all, I've been extraordinarily lucky with wisdom teeth not causing me any trouble, but I should be prepared.
I see the list of dentists in my area, and my heart starts pounding and I start crying for no reason.
I KNEW I HAD A THING ABOUT TEETH. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT I HAD A PHOBIA ABOUT DENTISTS. JFC.

Hi, here via network. Could not help but drop by in your comments to offer my sympathies and at least one suggestion that may or may not be helpful. I ended up having all four wisdom teeth extracted 8 days ago (I have my post-op appointment in a few hours, actually) and I am v. v. poor indeed. Without insurance. The only way I could even see a dentist in the first place is cause I live in a large city where there are university dental schools. I don't know where you are located, but even if a dental school is within some driving distance, the cost should be 20-40% lower than a private practice and some schools even offer payment plans. It's an option that merits investigation. I have been treated very well by the dental students and their professors.
Really, there's nothing you can do about wisdom teeth. They either come in or they remain impacted. Regardless, most of the time they gotta go, it's just an inconvenient, stupid and expensive fact of life.
