Snowflake Challenge #2
In your own space, talk about your fannish history. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
As I mentioned in my intro post, I've been around fandom for quite a while. I remember reading Ronin Warriors slash (does anyone else remember Mink's Archive?) But it wasn't until I watched Gundam Wing that I actually wrote my first fic.
I have a tendency to dabble in a fandom until I find one that triggers the writing bug. Harry Potter was my first serious fandom. I completely fell into Harry/Draco, and I made so many great friends. We all fell out of touch, the way fandom friends tend to do, but I still think about them a lot. I don't even know if any of them are in fandom anymore.
My next big fandom was in 2006, when I dove into Kyo Kara Maoh. Although now I'm surprised at how little I actually wrote for it, I was genuinely obsessed. Even now, I still have so much merchandise. Who purchased—not just one, but TWO—one-of-a-kind hand-painted animation cels from Anime Cellar a decade and a half ago? Yes. It was me.
My third, and currently my most prolific fandom, is CW's The Flash. Comic books have always been a part of my life, although I've always been more of an X-Men person. The Flash had the perfect storm for me: great characters, terrible plotting, and a lot of room to play. The Flash/Captain Cold is my current OTP fuel, and I have not stopped writing about these assholes since 2016.
I feel like I've been around for so much—I lived through webrings, Yahoo! mailing lists, the Livejournal Strikethrough, Fanlib, the birth of AO3, and the exodus and splintering of modern fandom. It's been a wild ride, for sure.
