So, I've been floundering about, trying to figure out how to get back into the habit of posting my thoughts on DW again, but fortunately there's a meme circulating my flist that I can take advantage of!



So what have you been up to?

Well... the most interesting thing is that dungeonmarm and I went to the Little Rock Picture show a couple of weeks ago and spent the entire weekend watching sci-fi and horror movies. There wasn't enough horror, I still have a hankering. As for this week, his family and my dad and I are all going to Murry's Dinner Theater in Little Rock to watch Hairspray, so that should be fun.

I have also been watching dungeonmarm play Dragon Age. I feel like a proud mama, watching a baby gamer take his first steps. He beat Dragon Age Inquisition, and is now going through the whole series. \o/

ALSO. We participated in GishWhes! It was super fun, although it coincided with the film festival, so we couldn't throw ourselves entirely into it. I'm looking forward to next year, though.

Major life changes? Same old same old?

Same old. So painfully the same. I feel like I'm walking around in a fog of sameness.

What fandom are you in/do you spend most of your time in?

I'm reading Steve/Bucky MCU fic pretty exclusively. I did read an SPN fic that I thought was charming, and of course every time scaramouche posts something, I glee inside.

Where do you hang out online?

Whatever has an app on my phone, pretty much. I'm casually on tumblr, lurking on DW and Slack.

What are you reading?

Old original fiction, and shitty romances from BookBub, because I am weak.

What are you watching?

Not much, really. I was watching Titansgrave: The Ashes of Valkana, but now the first season is over. TableTop. Carmilla. A lot of youtube entertainment.

What are you making?

Dinner. Occasionally. Tomorrow I'm going to make margherita pizza grilled cheese sandwiches because I saw a recipe on Tumblr that sounds interesting. A day or so ago, I made Persian Rice, which was surprisingly good.

What are you squeeing about today?

Dragon Age, mostly. Surviving work for another day. The nice rain we've had all day. Tea. a gorgeous pair of shoes I saw at work today and hope to buy on Friday.

If you could rope old fandom friends into a new fandom, it would be...

VIOLENT MESSIAHS. ALWAYS. FOREVER. I LOVE THAT SERIES SO MUCH. OMG.

I should really watch/read/dive into _______ and then come talk to you about it!

What else is on your mind?

I adopted a new cat! She's a Siamese named Jill, and so far she and Alex are tolerating each other, but not terribly friendly. I'm hoping that will change in the next couple of weeks.

Other than that, the couple of SPN fics have made me sort of nostalgic for my own SPN fic? But I don't really have many people in the SPN fandom anymore, and I can't really ask anyone to read 50k of fic just to cheerlead me through chapter 5 of The Narrow Way. Ugh.

Ooooooh, tell me more...

VIOLENT MESSIAHS. Okay, like !!! Simple stuff:

* It's a comic book series that lasted for twelve issues, and two story arcs.

* Everyone in it is fucked up. Like seriously.

* The main character is named Cheri Major, and she's a hardass police detective who has panic attacks and listens to jazz when she gets home.

* There are vigilantes.

* There is an exploration of BDSM in the second arc.

* There's a love story.

* There are a lot of pretentious poetry and biblical references, but that only adds to its charm.

* It's costume design is so festishy and weird that I really want to cosplay it one day.

I stumbled into it waaaaaay back in the 90's, and it's just everything I love, and I'm incoherent about it. I own the entire thing in first print copies, but I also have it digitally and in TPB.

It also has some funny little things, for ex, the setting is a made up place outside of New York called Rankor Island, and the police jacket has the initials RIP (I know the stupid RIPD movie makes the same joke, but I maintain VM made it first, as VM was originally 1997, and RPID was 1999.)

I'm like, the only one writing/who has written in this fandom.

Oh! Interesting story time:

A couple of years ago, I had been reading VM in nostalgia (I do that at least once a year and mope at myself) and I was like, dude, I wonder what the author is doing, so I tracked him down (he is doing another comic called Unknown Soldier, which also seems interesting, although I haven't read it) and I emailed him.

Like, actually emailed him, because IDK, when I wrote him a fan letter way back when VM was just ending its first arc, he actually wrote back? And it really meant a lot to me. So I was like, IMMA DO IT AGAIN. And he wrote back again! And was ALSO nostalgic about that comic! But then said that he had parted ways with the artist and probs wouldn't ever write any more of that story.

And so I was like, well, if the canon has been abandoned by its creator, it's MY sandbox now! And so I pretend that my chronology is the actual canon chronology, even though its not and I know better.

Anyway, VIOLENT MESSIAHS! If you want to read it, I'll happily upload the cbr files for you. :DDD
