Hmmmm. I've been told I have a great sense of dramatic timing. Let's go with that.
G Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
Hmmm. This is a tough one. My urge is to automatically go for Here Mid the Ash Trees, but... I'm going to go with my Alex/Raven fic Dinner and a Movie which, shockingly, is not in my index. That needs to be corrected.
Why this is one of my favorites, though? I guess it's because this piece, although it's not technically part of the actual canon universe, just has so many little details that I love. Alex being co-dependent, and Raven being an absolute slob, and I just love these guys. Excerpt:
Raven watched him for a long moment, but Alex ignored him, grabbing the remote and turning the television on. Raven left, the door clicking quietly behind him, and Alex sighed, his shoulders slumping even further. He flipped channels for a couple of minutes and then turned the TV off and went into the kitchen to wash the dishes. After that, he put Raven's books on their shelves and gathered the last strewn bits of Raven's clothing from the back of the couch, the recliner, the lampshade, and beneath the refrigerator (peeking out just enough that Alex wondered how the hell Raven had gotten it there) and tossed them into Raven's room with the rest of his clothes, shutting the door behind him.
H Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
I'm terrible at dialogue. D: That being said, this part from And on the shore, our haggard bed is something that I deeply, deeply love, just because Cheri is such a hard ass and Ernest is such a coward and I love mixing it all up here.
She covered the wound back up and laughed. "Houston, you’re nuts. This is just a flesh wound. Don’t scare me like that, asshole."
"You know me." Ernest said shakily. "I live on the edge."
"This is what we’re going to do, okay? You listening to me?" Ernest nodded, so Cheri continued. "We’re going to rest here for a little while, and then we’re going to fight our way down to the docks, because we’re fucking badass. We’ll take the ferry, swim the fucking channel if we have to, and we’ll let Rankor Island eat itself up. How’s that for a plan?"
"Sounds good, Cheri."
Cheri rested her hand against Ernest’s forehead to sweep back his hair, and she could already feel the fever, the infection beginning to take hold. She picked up her gun and cleaned off the handle before reloading. "Where we going once we hit New York?"
"I was thinking Maui," Ernest said. "They have great beaches."
"You don’t want to see me in a bathing suit." Cheri set her thumb on the hammer and cocked it, drawing it back and rolling the first chamber. "I’ll blind you. I look like a dead fish."
"I know better. You’ll look great. Like a mermaid." Ernest twisted in Cheri’s arms, his brown eyes calm.
O If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
Hands down, it's Here Mid the Ash Trees. It's visual, and quite frankly, I absolutely believe it's still the best thing I've ever written.
Y What do you look for in a beta?
Mostly, I look for characterization help. That's always what I'm shakiest on, and what worries me the most. From there, it's tense, because I can't keep past/present straight for the life of me. I like betas that ask me questions that make me think of the bigger world of the story, even if it doesn't show in that particular story I'm writing. So I'm really just saying that my friends are the best, because they do this for me. <333333

Ten years ago, I would've said no, because I only ever wrote short things. Now, everything is ridiculously long, and if I didn't write at least an outline, I would cry. Which explains why I'm hardly writing anymore. The things that I *am* currently writing do indeed have at last the bare bones of an outline.
F Share one of your weaknesses.
Everything. Seriously, though, I suppose I'm terrible at writing funny characters, but I'm also terrible at just skipping scenes I don't want to write. /o\
S Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?
Hahahaha. Oh, man. I don't really have muses so much anymore? But I used to. I had like this, giant land of muses in my brain, with actual terrain. There was the mushroom swamp, where my very first Rodney McKay muse started its lifespan, there was the Jukebox in the corner where muses could change whatever earworm I had stuck in my head--man, yes. I had muses. To put it lightly.
AE Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?
Unless I'm specifically writing AU, I am so strict about being canon compliant. I've had entire WIPs die on the vine because I couldn't get it to mesh with the media I was watching, or I was jossed before I wrote anything. Man, I hate when that happens. The Narrow Way was almost completely thrown away, but I like that story too much to let it die.

You know, as I've gotten older, I've found really great tricks for scooting around scenes I don't want to write. Not necessary scenes, but stuff that needs to be there but isn't vital? Yeah. I skip that stuff. It helps my word count, too, so it's only long and not outrageous.
Also, I totally don't believe you about your weaknesses. You're a really solid writer, bb!

I have been told that I have an intensely ridiculous loathing of my own writing.
no subject
Well, I mean. I've seen it all. I've seen people who feel they don't really need editors (betaees who think they're Anne Rice!) and people who really just hate everything about what they produce. You're not that bad, at least you can name some things that you like, and some strengths. I'll keep harping on you until you believe it. <3

A Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.
It's really changed a lot since I was younger. Basically, if it's vaguely lyrical, involves magic and ladies, I'm probably all up in it. I like wistful endings and sad endings over happy endings, though. Although I love happy endings too!
B Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
I don't really think specifically of tropes and go, ooh, I want to write that! That being said...I do really, really want to write that John/Dorian A/B/O Almost Human AU. /o\
V Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style.
I...really have to get back to you on this one. I still can't decide.

G Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
For this one, I've chosen A Shadow, Cast by Light:
He wanted so many things still —the sun on his face and Cheri by his side and the entire universe cupped in his palms as a gift to her. None of those were more plausible than any of the others. He'd given up on realism.
To die for Cheri Major was more than he had hoped for. He would make her untouchable. Unstoppable.
He would make the world her stage and watch as it burned down behind her.
I love it deeply because Job is such an obsessive character, and I'd hoped that I could show that in some way. Violent Messiahs was a canon that apparently no one but me read, and I suppose I also love it because I was the only one writing anything (in a fandom of literally four people. /o\)
H Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
So... it turns out that I'm not really very proud of much of my dialogue? I've gone through several stories trying to find dialogue that I actually like, and it's slim pickings. I'll have to go with what I gave

I have no idea. DDD:
Ummm, the only one coming to mind is
AK Talk about your current wips.
So many WIPs. I don't know where to begin.
I have a couple of Harry Potter stories I'm still eyeing, although I doubt I'll ever finish them.
I have two KKM stories that I fully intend to write? One of them, An Exercise in Caution is a dubcon Conrad/Gwendal, and I really thought I'd finished that one? But I apparently didn't, as I can't find a finished copy online. The other one I'm thinking about is a threesome between Annisina, Gwendal, and Conrad, with Conrad being temporarily transformed into a woman by one of Annisina's machines.
There's my Season 4 Supernatural epic A Narrow Way, which I'm actually working on right now. Conquest! I love really deep, apocalypse AU's, and I can't find enough to satisfy me. I also think that what the show did to angels was really a disservice, because there's so much that can be done.
Then there's my original stuff. God. The one that I love the most right now is my Queer POC Princess Pirate story, with Adrienne the fairy and Malik the Mulim Scholar and Aurore, the sleeping princess. <3 But also, Wendy the Pirate and the mermaids, and the 'princess and the pea' princess as The Armored Princess from the Chinese Southern Song dynasty and and and--
There's also the Brooklyn and Dakota story, and the Lancaster story, and the Talent universe, and--
yeah. Way too much.
AL Talk about a review that made your day.
IDK. All of them make my day? Kudos don't really give me the same thrill that an actual comment does. There was one recently on The Narrow Way
I don't know how this went under my radar for so long, but I love it! I'm guessing by how long ago it was updated that you called it quits. That's truly a shame; it's the best triangle/slow burn I've read in Supernatural. If you continued on another site, please let me know! I'd love to read it.
On one hand, I'm absolutely thrilled that someone thought this is one of the best slow burn stories she's read in SPN. On the other hand, it makes me realize that I last updated this story like, four years ago. W. T. F. self.
