So, I was going to write an entry about a fic that
scheherezhad had read that had actually managed to squick me (and I haven't been squicked by anything in years—and then I realized that it's 12-12-12 today and I didn't want to waste any more of the day thinking about it.
So instead, I'll say that I've been reading a lot of Dean/Cas fic. My preferred genre for the pairing is AU, mostly for the fact that I can forgive imperfect characterization more easily that way. I just can't handle it when people write angels wrong. It's why I've spent two years on my spn fic, even though I've now been jossed all to hell and back and am probably intensely out of character for everything now.
Oh, my brain. I wonder some times, for real.

Huh. I've noticed that my favourite stories of almost every fandom tend to be AUs (they just do. I mean, even my favourite Dean/Cas story is one of Rageprufrock's AU), and now I'm wondering if it's the extra wiggle room around characterisation that works for me. Hmmm. This bears thinking about.
