So, I watched OUaT S02E02 yesterday (also, look at that format! I pirate way too freaking much.) I've been patiently waiting for [profile] lady_krysis to watch it so I can squee, but then I realized there was a whole INTERNET out here!

I am going to start with being absolutely upfront about something. I DO NOT SHIP REGINA/EMMA IN ANY SHAPE. Okay. Now that it's off my chest, I'm going to talk about Regina for a bit.

I loved Regina in this ep, seriously. I have a deep, deep weakness for redemption stories, and seeing hints of humanity in Regina is so, so great. I loved her desperation, her magic, the way she's perfectly confident in herself except where it comes to Henry. Didn't care for her backstory at all. Pre-evil Regina bores me in every way. Lana Parrilla is fantastic at being wicked, and super boring as the wide-eyed ingenue.

Henry is less great. I would believe him more if he showed any empathy or affection for Regina in the first season, and now we're just supposed to accept that he does, in fact, consider Regina his mother? It's interesting and complicated, but every time he's on the screen, I just think about what a liar he is. Ugh.

I absolutely love Charming, way more than I do David. The way Charming handles being both, when Jefferson is so tormented by it—it really speaks to his strength of character. I also really loved the detail that Snow White was the one who really handled the kingdom, and he was basically just the sword she pointed at bad guys. It's sweet, and speaks back to his pauper origin, since he never would've had training in politics. The fact that his speech at the end was less practiced and more heartfelt really, really worked for me. CHARMING! ♥

I can't forget Rumplestiltskin! I love Mr. Gold and Rumplestiltskin! They are perfect and wonderful and I love them deeply. I also like that Mr. Gold didn't know that they would still be stuck in Storybrooke. He still can't find his son, and I love it. I LOVE HIM. THANK YOU. THE END. MOVE ON.

There were a lot of little things I liked, too. Marco looking for Pinocchio, who had run away; the dwarves focused as the Royal Guard; Granny and her crossbow (OTP, right there!); Ruby working just as hard as Charming to keep the town together. Mulan not taking any crap from anyone! Emma still calling Snow Mary! (my little shipper heart!) This show. I love it so much.
