DC first impressions

So, this week, I got Batgirl and Static Shock. Spoilers ahoy!

I'm reserving my judgement on this one for a couple of issues. This Babs was apparently Oracle for three years. Which, okay. This issue was very much YAY I CAN WALK YAY I'M KICKING BAD GUYS WITH MY FEET I'M A SUPERHERO AGAIN YAAAAAY! That's the way it read for me, but I have my cranky glasses on right now, so I could be taking it a little too hard.

Commissioner Gordon was a darling. I think I'm going to like him as a supporting character.

And Babs has a bartender/artist/activist roommate girl whose name I can't remember off hand who conveniently works nights. I kind of want her to be a lesbian.

On the other hand, the first new villain of Barbara's Rogue's Gallery looks pretty cool, so I'm interested in seeing more of Mirror.

Also, the POC female cop is named Mel, not Renee, so I'm still going to be anxious for Renee's first appearance in the DCnU.

We leave off with Barbara paralyzed (ha ha) with fear. Not an auspicious beginning.

I missed Ritchie. I really hope they'll introduce him at some point. But there were so many good things in this issue!

Virgil working at Cadmus after school because weird stuff happens there and he can sneak away during evacuations! I love how he used his power and tossed civilians around, drained their car batteries, broke their phones and computers, and was generally a horrible nuisance all around, even though he was trying to be a hero.

Other brill things: Virgil has two sisters. And his Mom is alive! ♥ Oh, when I turned the page and saw her there, I think I almost hugged the issue. So now I'm going to be on pins and needles wondering if she's going to die like she did in the original cartoon series, or if she is going to stick around as an awesome supporting character. *crosses fingers*

Also, this comic is where all the diversity has gone, seriously. There's Virgil and his family, of course, but then there's a group of unnamed villains, and if the artist can be believed, I saw a couple of blacks, some Asians, and even maybe(?) a Latina. SO EXCITED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

We leave off with Virgil getting his arm shot off! WHAT?
