Are we all set up for Thursday night? 8:30 pm at the Rave, is that okay with everyone?

Secondly, who's picking me up? *waggles eyebrows*

She's bringing her friends, so I'm driving.

I thought jon was giving you a ride.

As far as I know, he is, although I'm not positively certain. All I meant was that I was concerned about you driving to Little Rock, as your father seemed so adamant about you not doing that. But it's a week day, isn't it, so that's okay...

I'm really not sure if Mum's gonna lend me her car tonight, but if she doesn't, I can take either you or Amanda in my car; I think that's too long a drive to squeeze another passenger in. Amanda mentioned she might have to meet us there, anyway, so this might work out just fine. I'll call her and see what's going on.

Right, Mom's agreed to lend to me her car tonight (I was sweeping the kitchen when she came home, and that seemed to please her mightily); so I just need to know when you want me to pick you up, Rachel (as long as I have time to get a shower first).

Well, if the movie starts at 8:30, just pick me up with enough time to get the movie, or whenever! <3

I'm gonna try to be at your house at 7:30, but I may well be late. I'll do my best..

My father is adamant about a great many things, which I tend to ignore unless he proves himself right.

I can get there now, so he has no reason to argue with me about it.

In any case, I guess we're meeting at the Rave then? I'll probably be there early as I have a terrible phobia of being late.

Just call my cell. phone if anything changes or whatnot.

Ack!

I'm really sorry, but my sister was doing something, and we left the house really late, then when we tried to get on the exit, some lady cut in front of us and blocked it, so we got there uber late, and I figured you guys were already in the theater, so she, her friend, and I went to a later showing because we were just that late.

But I'm alive and well and okay. ^^

I enjoyed it quite a bit, although it was certainly weak in areas. While the movie was brutal, and many have made complaints in that area, I don't believe it went overboard because those days certainly were not nice, and they were making an example of Jesus.

The references were nice as well.

While I can understand why some may say it's anti-Semitic though, I don't believe they have truly grasped the purpose of the movie and its intentions. There was so much more there about human cruelty and what we do to each other that transcends ethnicity and race.

It wasn't about anti-Semitism but human cruelty, and I think the movie conveyed this, although, as I said, it was weak in some areas, where I would have appreciated more story because it seemed to slightly deter from mainstream references, as in the case of Mary Magdalene and his mother Mary.

I think there was more emphasis placed on the outside characters rather than Jesus. To me, while the movie attempted to focus on Jesus and his final hours, there was so much more story behind the other characters (many of whom I intend to write about).

Judas, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother, Peter, Lucifer, the supporting characters were what moved the story for me, and I almost wanted more from them. Partially, I know this is because I already know the story of Jesus.

Nevertheless, the cinematography was nice. I enjoyed how they weaved memories through the story to further enhance characterization. It humanized the characters more, even Jesus, which is what slightly worried me. They still martyred him, but I believe he was a martyr in his own time. I just thought the movie might idealize him, which it slightly did, but it didn't quite forget his humanity either.

All in all, it was a film worth watching, and I want to see it again for some deeper philosophical meanings because I think there's so much more there, especially in the metaphors.

Lucifer with the snake is obviously a metaphor, and one employed quite well as we can see Jesus resisting then killing the snake (temptation).

Even Mary must overcome her own fears and go to Jesus as a mother would and not as a disciple. Even the image of Mary and Lucifer on opposing sides, watching Jesus, watching each other, waiting.

Despite the brutality, the film had a surprising amount of subtlety that I think many miss because they're so focused on the gruesome scenes.
