Victory!

I don't have to work New Year's Day.

*sighs*

I failed Introduction to Linguistics. Academic suspension, anyone? *weeps*

Just for everyone's information, I probably won't be allowed to write fan fiction for the next semester, if I'm on academic suspension. So, if I disappear, don't be too afraid. ^^

it's a what?!

how idiotic is that?

:fumes:

my god, you'd just as well make intro to anthropology a rec for the degree, with all the help you'll get from an intro ling course. jesus. it makes no sense. none.

your department is fucked up. blarg.

and if you disappear because of something like this i will be very upset.

i still adore you. it's your farking department that needs a clue.

Yeah, it's a required course, right up there with technical writing. *sighs* I hope I won't, but knowing my father, he's already said that I'm spending too much of my time writing fan fiction and not enough time on my real life.

And I'm glad you still adore me. ^^ And yes, my department *does* need a clue.

'technical writing'?

why, how very... well, i can't even begin to describe how that sounds to me. it sounds like a root canal of the soul, is what it sounds like. and just as heartless. my god.

i mean, i took the really boring anthro theory course because it was a rec and, moreover, a *good* requirement. despite the oddities of my prof's lecturing style (he said that anthropological theory grew like crabgrass, if that gives you an idea), it was a good and valid course.

but a course on how to write? why? i mean, take joyce and hemingway. they were usually dead drunk when they wrote, and i think that rather counteracts any training they had. i mean, really. and yet look at how celebrated they are.

:sighs: of course, i'm preaching to the choir here, but...

:continues fuming:

and- meh. i just wish people who didn't write could understand. i hope your father comes around.

:hugs:

So do I. My problem with my college courses is there's so much technicality involved. If it's just writing, I'm fantastic. But things like actual *technical* writing, and the hows and wherefores of linguistics, etc. are so difficult for me.

And I don't think technical writing teaches how to 'technically' write, I think it teaches you how to write stuff like the annoying instructions to hook up your V.C.R.?

I wish people would understand more, too. But my father's really iffy about the whole fan fiction, anyway. He thinks it's a waste of my talent. *sighs*
