(no subject)

I have decided that I hate people. We got this new check thingee at work, yeah? This neat it-reads-the-number-on-the-check and puts in a half circle, and then you get to type in the driver's license number. If a number comes up with their name, we are NOT allowed to accept it. We are ALSO not allowed to tell them WHY we cannot accept it. That's all fine and dandy.

This lady comes in, and her check gets a number, so I can't take it. She's all 'it's okay, I have cash' and I'm all 'oh, good, she's gonna be cool about this.' So she pays for her gas with legal tender. Yay. THEN.

She comes in a few minutes later, and says 'Can you give me my cash back and charge it to my credit card?' Which I would do, but I couldn't. The gasoline pumps go through the register. Once it is paid for, I CANNOT refund the money to pay for it in a different method. So I say 'No, ma'am, I can't.' And I explain to her WHY I can't. And then she gets all narrow-eyed and 'I've never HEARD of such a thing. Give me the name and number of your manager.'

Bitch.

So I'm all nice and polite, totally. 'Ma'am, it isn't going to change the fact that I CAN'T do this. Believe me, if I could, I would do it for you.' So, she keeps insisting in this really pissy voice to get my manager's number. So I get it for her, even though I am SO seething. And then I'm all, 'Here you are, ma'am. I'm sincerely sorry about the inconvienence.'

And she says, 'I BET you are.' And walks out.

As if the fucking bitch can even get me in trouble for DOING my JOB. Go get yourself laid, you fucking uptight... *trembles because she's so angry but can't do anything, since it's 1:30 a.m*

I mean, COME ON!! I wasn't doing anything wrong! *sighs* I have come to the conclusion that I am intellectually superior than more than 2/3rds of Conway, AR.

And, to top it all off, a quiz from Cai's journal:

Is this totally me right now, or what?

:groans:

that reminds me of my old job in the library...

random patron: this book has been recalled.

me: :extends hand to receive book:

random patron: but i still need the book. tell me the name of the person who recalled it so i can talk to her.

me: (not another one of those...) i'm sorry, but i am not allowed to give out that information, if you would-

random patron: but i *need* this book! why can't you just tell me her name?!

me: :counting to ten. in russian: because the library has a privacy policy that we are not allowed to violate. it would be the same if you were recalling the book. however, you may-

random patron: this is discrimination! let me talk to the supervisor!

me: :evil grin: i *am* a supervisor. but, if you want to talk to the head of my department...

random patron: :insert expletive here:

anyway, it was a common thing. i really think that library patrons are some of the dumbest, most annoying and vicious people ever born on this planet. people somehow *lose* brain cells when they enter a library. and if you were wondering what the patron could do- she had 2 possibilities. while *she* could not contact the other patron, *i* could. she could also leave a note in the book asking to share it. most people are fine with that. :sighs:
