Okay! Internet is fixed, but is limited to my father's computer again. There appears to be something wrong with the wireless router, but that's something we can fix in the future. Dad has actually contacted a repairman, and even ordered a replacement part! (The fan, which I've been harping on him to fix for months.) He's also contemplating getting a new computer, which I'm anxiously awaiting, so that I can completely wipe the drive of viruses and write on it to my heart's content.

In other news, Raven is a victim to Alex's libido. Haven't actually written any of the pr0n down, because that makes it too close to canon in my brain, and I require other people to write porn of them. So mostly I sit at work with glazed eyes and envision them. And they are pretty. People should write me fic. Don't tell me that I haven't written enough about them to make it plausible. Let me dream.

Detective!John is wondering when [livejournal.com profile] scheherezhad and I are going to write our version of the ARN, and has started hinting to me that he could totally work up a usable prologue if I could only bring myself to touch the book again.

Rodney!muse is almost completely de-mushroomed, with the exception of the collar of fungus he keeps trying to rip off. His arms are completely to scale, and he has working approximations of what might be legs. It's very impressing. Now he can run after Detective!John when he gets smacked.

Weather!Pattern!John is mostly not weather any more, unless he decides to get an attitude and doesn't want to talk to anyone. He still gives me a lot of rain.

And a last bit of info that no one except me really cares about: Enigma!Sirius actually, genuinely loves Engima!Snape. I'm this close to giving them a private island so they won't be bothered by Harry, honestly.

Also: I have watched like, the last four episodes of Dr. Who season 4, and am not quite sure why I'm so unhappy with the end of it. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that I'm in love with Rose. Ah, well.

So, how are we going to do this? Are we going to write the characters equally, or do you want to take over writing one specific character and we trade off on the supporting characters? Or something else that I can't think of at the moment?

Well, seeing as how I'm equally (un)comfortable writing everyone, I'd be fine with it either way. Though since I do naturally gravitate to John, I may write from his side a little more, so that's something to consider. Do you have a preference, or is one way easier for you?

I don't really have a preference, per se. I very definitely have a strong John!muse for this thing, so we'll have to touch base and make sure we match up on him. Other than that, everyone else is kind of free-style for the moment.

We'll have to sketch out a background for Rodney that tells us how he became a journalist in the first place, instead of an astrophysicist (although he tells me he's obviously intelligent enough to do both.)

Also, I definitely think that instead of the teenage prostitute thing, we should totally have technological espionage and missing scientists--that makes it more complicated and less ridiculous than the actual book, I think.

Also, John totally builds model airplanes instead of playing with stained glass. I know we stated that before, but it still amuses me and deserves reiterating.

What are the important bits about your John? I have a John for this, but he's malleable, so it shouldn't be much of a problem to match them up. I don't think I have any strong notions about the supporting cast. They're just themselves with different jobs, mostly.

Brainstorming on Rodney, maybe the writing sort of started as a hobby? Like, he was already in astrophysics and would write scathing letters to people who published horribly, horribly wrong articles in journals. Then he realized he liked the writing. He was good at it, and at researching the facts, and he ran with it. Just an idea.

I agree that espionage and kidnapped scientists > prostitutes. So, so much better.

And I have this image in my head of John's work room. There are a tools and supplies all over, some shelves with completed models, an in-progress model or two, and a squadron carefully hung from the ceiling in a dynamic formation. He loves it a lot.

The bad thing about the way my muses act is that I don't really know what they're going to be like on the page until they're actually written. *laughs* Oh, this is going to be slow going, isn't it? <3333

That could totally work for Rodney. The idea I was toying with was that once he stopped playing the piano, he had just been getting into astrophysics, and of course there would be the obligatory English papers, so maybe someone he really respected mentioned off-hand how good he was at it or something. But yeah, either way. And it makes me happy for him to still have a background in astrophyics, especially if we go with an espionage angle.

Oh, oh, and what if, on that trip before he loses his memory, he was actually undercover, and that's how he got all the info to blow the kidnappings and the espionage wide open? That would explain why the Genii would be so desperate to get rid of him before his memory comes back, instead of the lameness that was the actual book villain.

Also, re: John's workroom-- YES. PERFECT. I LOVE YOU.

Undercover Rodney ftw. That explains a lot of things in a simple and logical manner, instead of being random and retarded like the book. Because of course Rodney would run off and infiltrate the affected community in order to get a story as good as this. He fights writes for truth, justice, and the American way the betterment of mankind through science. XD

Oh, also, how's the outline coming?

[identity profile] lunesque.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
For serious! And it would also explain the break ins, the stalking, and a million other really bad plot points that will now be set up!

As for the outline, I'm having trouble deciding where to begin, although I know exactly where most of the book plot is going to take place. It's just the starting point before the actual book begins that's tough. I have to re-read it so that I can get the timeline right.
