I've officially reached 10k on my coldflash big bang story! \o/ I work until 5pm tomorrow, but I have Tuesay off, so I'm hoping that letting it germinate in my brain for the day will make the actual plot parts of the story work for me. (I skipped ahead and wrote the kissing. There needs to be more kissing in this story, for real.)

I'm taking a break now because it's almost time for me to go to bed, but I glanced at the question prompts [personal profile] sperrywink gave me for my entires and realized what the next one was:

How did you decide Break Up of the Ice would have an angsty ending?

And I can't resist any opportunity to talk about Break Up of the Ice!

Okay okay! God, I love BuotI, it's still my favorite Flash story that I've written. It was actually meant to have an angsty ending all along--in my previous entry, I mentioned how I usually start off with a scene, and it was exactly that for BuotI. I woke up one morning and immediately thought of the confrontation in Len's apartment in the last chapter, specifically this line: "I'm a criminal, Red. I lie. I hurt people. And I take things that don't belong to me."

It very specifically mirrored Snart's line in 1x23, and I thought 'Oh my god, I'm going to write this thing."

All things considered (and spoiler alert here, if you want to read it and haven't yet) I don't particularly think of that story as an unhappy ending, even though Len and Barry don't stay together. He's still on the Waverider with people who have grown into his friends and support group, and he's got his sister with him. That's all he needs.

Of course, that doesn't stop me from imagining the next mission after 1986 being in the future, when Barry has had time to come to terms with what happened between them and it's still a raw, gaping wound for Leonard, but... well. there's a reason I haven't written any more of that story. There's nothing good coming from it.

Seriously, though, I love answering questions about Break Up of the Ice, and if anyone has anything else they want to know about, tell me!

I hope you got as much writing doen today as you hoped. (Still rooting you on).

Interesting! I must admit I am totally a shippy person. It is rare I write gen, and I've never written a non-Happily Ever After. I'm kind of in awe that you did it, but it does make sense for that story and those characters.
