I'm just going to do a bullet list, because that seems to be the easiest thing to get out right now. I've turned into such a lazy blogger, it's ridiculous. Of course, I'm getting more and more lazy the older I get, so I'll probably evolve into a slug within the next couple of years.
Anyway, things of importance or interest that have happened in the last two months:
* The Little Rock Horror Picture Show:
That was pretty much the best weekend I've had in a long time.
dungeonmarm,
lady_krysis and I spent all three days together.
lady_krysis introduced us to several amazing places to eat, and I would be happy to live in LR just for the food. Because OMG. The movies were hit or miss—the short films were mostly really good, and there was an animated short called PostHuman that was extraordinarily interesting, and I really wish they'd expand that into a movie/comic/whatever universe expansion, because it deserves it. We walked out of a piece of shit movie called The Eureka Incident, but we also saw Jugface, which was good, and Motivational Growth.
Now, the funny thing about Motivational Growth is that when I saw the trailer for it, it seemed like a whole bunch of weirdness without context. Upon seeing it, I'd say that it's definitely weird and quirky, but it works. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who might want to see it, but it was entertaining and strange. They passed out plushies before the movie and said that even if we hated the movie, at least we had a present, which I thought was funny. The director of that movie is Don Thacker, and we got the opportunity to meet him, because he took the time to mingle with everyone. While I understand the festival is a place for filmmakers to make connections and promote their work, it's always nice when you see someone who's willing to chill out with fans. I'm definitely going to be watching out for his name again.
* Evil Dead
No spoilers. I loved it even more the second time watching it. It's gory and silly and gory, but I love it. It makes me want to re-watch the original Evil Dead movies.
* I've hung out with
scheherezhad twice over the last couple of weeks, which is amazing and \o/ worthy. She's been feeling really crummy and without spoons, and I've missed her. She was also super awesome and found us both Poison Ivy converse shoes at TJ Maxx. I work there, and she finds stuff I'm shocked at. I bow down to her awesomeness.
* We're finally starting a table top rpg, and we're going to be using the Dragon Age Tabletop set, because I LOVE THAT UNIVERSE SO HARD. Also, for some reason, I've been encouraged to be the game master, so DDD: I've never guided a game before! I'm terrified. Our first full game session is going to be on May 11th, and I'm hoping that everyone will enjoy the quest I have planned. Game mastering, how do you do it? D:
* Speaking of tabletop games,
dungeonmarm had watched all of Wil Wheaton's Tabletop Youtube series, and then I watched all of it. This has ended in us having five hundred million tabletop games. We now have:
Munchkin
Super Munchkin
Star Munchkin
Star Fluxx
Cthulhu Fluxx
Fiasco
Cthulhu Gloom
and, of course, the Dragon Age Tabletop game.
I haven't owned this many games since I was like, eight.
* I have a new hair cut! It's super short now, because I just got tired of having to pull it back for work.
* Speaking of work, I have the cutest pair of owl earrings that I've picked up there. I've also been trained in price markdown, and they're working on getting me into the cash office, so...yay being useful?
That's what's happened with me recently! How is everyone else doing?
ETA: I've also contributed to two Kickstarter projects! The first is a POC version of Sherlock Holmes set in Harlem called Watson and Holmes, and the second is the American manga Off-beat. Both are super awesome!
