Time Left Us Behind -- A Poem
These days, the ghosts haunt me even more,
and you are lurking like a mine
behind every corner.
It isn't enough to say we had
in that lazy summer way
when we were young
and time went on forever--
There is a winter part of me now:
I stay within
to tap along the edges of myself,
searching for the pieces of you
that were left behind--
like when I look around my room
and find you in every corner.
I picked the slivers of you out
like a surgeon of the soul
and Time--
Time heals all
of these wounds
except for the ones you left
like love notes
in the hidden places where I bleed.
and you are lurking like a mine
behind every corner.
It isn't enough to say we had
in that lazy summer way
when we were young
and time went on forever--
There is a winter part of me now:
I stay within
to tap along the edges of myself,
searching for the pieces of you
that were left behind--
like when I look around my room
and find you in every corner.
I picked the slivers of you out
like a surgeon of the soul
and Time--
Time heals all
of these wounds
except for the ones you left
like love notes
in the hidden places where I bleed.
